MODEST REVIEWS: Shamless (Paul Abbott, 2011-present)
Shameless’s second season has begun, and if you revel in things that the average churchgoer would find repulsive and reprehensible, then this may be the show for you.
William H. Macy tends to dominate the ads for this show, but the reality is that he is just a supporting role in a house of strong up-and-coming performers. Emmy Rossum is the real star of the show, playing a twenty-year-old charged with raising all five of her siblings by any means necessary.
What we’re left with is a house full of characters that never cease to entertain. Every person the camera bothers to follow is as complicated and interesting as the next, right down to an agoraphobic dominatrix played by Joan Cusack.
I repeat: An agoraphobic dominatrix played by Joan Cusack.
